an income report + a hurricane 🌀

Hey Reader,

I finally published my income report for
September 2024. 🎉

It's super late...I know.

In case you didn't know I live in Tampa, Florida and was subjected to the torment of hurricane Milton.

We're safe. Our home is safe. We didn't have any damage or flooding minus a few branches falling down,
but we did lose power for 6 days.

It's amazing how fast you start to go stir crazy with no power (and a 12 month old who hates not having her sound machine).

Fortunately we didn't have to stay stuck in our house without power and were able to move in with my in-laws for a few days while the power situation was resolved.

Highlights of my income report:

1). I made $8,515.20 - which is my lowest month of the whole year. Super interesting since I felt like September was my busiest month and my most stressed month.

2). I spent $1,362.70 - on contractors, software and coffee when I'm working out of the house and don't want to mooch off of a business for free.

3). I celebrated my daughter's first birthday, completed a weird goal to not save money and launched a new product!

Overall it was an ok month. Not my best, not my worst but I was more stressed out last month. Writing this income report made me see that some of that stress was just totally internal stuff I didn't actually need to be worrying about.

PS - When I wrote the income report I had a gross revenue of $98,943.75 which means that since then I have officially crossed over the six-figure mark for the year!

I've made six-figures the last several years but there's big parts of this year that have felt more challenging.

However much money you've made this year Reader - YOU'RE DOING A GOOD JOB.

Please use this email as just an example, not the exact roadmap to running a business. Every single time I publish an income report people tell me I make a ton of money and other people tell me my business is embarrassing and I should do something different.

My goal here is just transparency and normalizing that everyone's business, finances and tolerance level of not having power (which mine is low!) is totally different.

Hey Reader, I had four different ideas for this email… and couldn’t pick just one. So here’s a hodgepodge of things I think you might like: 1. This video about people using AI to write emails. It spirals into chaos by the end and will probably make you laugh. 2. I open this website when I need to stop procrastinating3. I’m speaking at the Courses + Memberships Summit* this week (tickets are free) I’m excited for Laura Robinson’s talk about what happened when she added a high-touch option to...

Hey Reader, February taught me TWO things. 1. Rolling babies cause chaos. 2. And public accountability works! One of these kept me awake at 2am. The other is the reason I finally started making real progress on one of my big goals for 2026. Here's a full recap of my February! Income: $7,752.68Expenses: $1,588.53 All of my money this month came from one-to-one client work.Mostly retainer clients that I work with month after month. No affiliate income. No digital product sales. Just good...

Hey Reader, Look at these two Candy Land boards. (Seriously. Don’t read ahead. Just look.) Old Candy Land. New Candy Land. What do you notice? For me, the first one feels calm. The second one feels like it’s yelling at me. I saw this comparison on Instagram the other day, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it. The original video was about kids and overstimulation, but my brain went straight to business. Because the longer you’re in business, the more you add. …Another offer.…Another...
