lying to myself

Hey Reader,

👇 A subscriber sent me this last week.

My first reaction was... wow this is so nicely written.

My second reaction was... dang Natalie is extremely right.

Want to visit my website?

Find out who I actually am?

GOOD LUCK, Reader. I've made it nearly possible to do that.

The fix is obvious. I'll add my links and bio going forward. (đź‘‹ Hi Natalie, I'm on it.)

But the real problem is bigger than a link.

I'm sort of in the middle of a whole business evolution right now.

To be clear → this is not a pity party.

My business is doing pretty great. I'm booked out through February 2027, and last year I made $124,499.36 while taking a 3-month maternity leave.

That's not 2-million-dollar YAP challenge money, but I think it's pretty good.

So what’s the evolution?

Two weeks ago I filled out an application for a $16,000 mastermind.

One of the questions asked me to describe what I do.

For years, my answer was always some version of "I help people set up online courses."

That was true for a long time.

But…Reader…it’s actually been 2 years since I set up a course from scratch.

Not because I don’t like it or because I think the online course industry is dead.

It’s because what people keep asking me to do (and what I’m booked out on) is to write emails for them.

So when I filled out that mastermind application*, I typed something different:

"I think I’m an in-denial email copywriter?"

Natalie wanted to know who I am. Fair.

Hey I’m Mara!

When I started out, I was the course person. I’ve helped launch over 250+ courses since 2018. Many of them you have probably heard of.

Now I'm some sort of combination of launch strategist and email copy expert?

I don't know how I want to label it yet.

But things are good.

I'm embracing the evolution.

If you're not 100% sure Reader where your space in this online world is right now... I think that's ok.

I'm also figuring it out.

❤️ Mara

Email Copy Pro? Launch Strategist?

P.S. - 2 quick things:

  1. This is the Natalie who gave me the really amazing and constructive feedback. I did email her and ask her if it was ok to share a screenshot of her email. I think really good constructive feedback is a such rare skillset these days.

  2. And no, I didn’t actually join the $16,000 mastermind. If you’re curious why I passed (and what it even was), hit reply with “YES” and I’ll tell you.
