Hey Reader, F*ck It Friday might be the smartest thing I've done for my business in a long time. You voted at the bottom of last week's email on what I should write about next, and this one won by a landslide. But this tip actually isn't about giving up or checking out, which some of you may have thought. It's about shooting your shot and telling your fears to take a back seat. Here's how it works:
That's it. Does it actually work? I honestly don't know. I only learned about this tip 13 days ago from a business friend …who learned it from another business friend... ....who got it off Instagram. ← I think this is the person that should get credit for the original idea. Last week I booked an interior designer to help us with our living room. That's probably not really "F*ck It Friday" energy. But it did feel scary and intimidating to me personally. I am, for the record, TERRIBLE at interior design. 👇 Here's my living room after living in this house for an entire year. I do think there's something really powerful about putting yourself out there. If you throw enough darts, eventually one will hit a bullseye. Plus you'll get a whole lot better at throwing darts. Pitching myself is not something I do enough of, so I'm making it a real practice starting now. Last year when I was putting together The Black Friday Summit, I decided to pitch Gemma Bonham-Carter as a speaker. If you don't know Gemma, she has a much bigger audience than me and I was pretty convinced she was going to ignore the email entirely. I sent it anyway. F*ck it. She said yes. If you want to read the actual pitch I sent her, click here. The summit was incredible and I'm running it again this year. That one pitch I almost didn't send completely changed the trajectory of the whole event. Ellen Yin from Cubicle to CEO also sponsored the whole thing, but one of my co-hosts (Dolly DeLong) sent that pitch so it's not my story to tell. I'm starting to think about who I should pitch for this year's summit, and I want your help. Who is the most wildly outrageous person you think I should pitch this year? The person where there is absolutely no way they would ever say yes? Hit reply with a name and I'll tell you who I ended up pitching in one of my next few emails. ❤️ Mara P.S. - If you want to get on the waitlist for this year's Black Friday summit, click here. Also swearing in emails is weird. It can at times trigger spam filters so if you do it I recommend doing it somewhat sparingly and avoiding direct swear words in the subject line. |

Yuck Reader, I really didn't want to write this email. But you kind of made me. A few weeks ago I asked a bunch of biz friends what they find interesting about me. (Pro tip: if you don't know what to write about, ask other people what they this is interesting about you.) One of said biz buds said: "You should talk more about what your most successful clients are doing." I shrugged it off... then dropped it as an option for what to send next in my last email. Whoopsie. That's the one you all...
Hey Reader, 👇 A subscriber sent me this last week. My first reaction was... wow this is so nicely written. My second reaction was... dang Natalie is extremely right. Want to visit my website? Find out who I actually am? GOOD LUCK, Reader. I've made it nearly possible to do that. The fix is obvious. I'll add my links and bio going forward. (👋 Hi Natalie, I'm on it.) But the real problem is bigger than a link. I'm sort of in the middle of a whole business evolution right now. To be clear → this...
