Hey Reader, Look at these two Candy Land boards. (Seriously. Don’t read ahead. Just look.) Old Candy Land. New Candy Land. What do you notice? For me, the first one feels calm. The second one feels like it’s yelling at me. I saw this comparison on Instagram the other day, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it. The original video was about kids and overstimulation, but my brain went straight to business. Because the longer you’re in business, the more you add. …Another offer. None of it is wrong. But eventually, the path forward starts to feel… buried. You sit down to work and instead of a clear path, it feels like the board is crowded. There are so many possible moves that figuring out which one matters takes more energy than it should. Lately I’ve been looking at my own business and asking:
Business-wise, this is still a work in progress for me. So I decided to test it at home. I moved half of our dishes into that weird cabinet above the fridge. I have two kids under 3. Turns out I don't actually need SIX coffee mugs sitting by the coffee pot. It’s a small change. But the kitchen feels calmer and in turn my entire life feels .01% calmer too. I keep wondering if business works the same way. Not adding something new. Just removing a few pieces from the board. Anyway. That’s what I’ve been thinking about this week. ❤️ Mara P.S. - I’d love to know, what’s something you’ve simplified recently that made your life easier. I’m always looking for ideas. Hey Reader, I had four different ideas for this email… and couldn’t pick just one. So here’s a hodgepodge of things I think you might like: 1. This video about people using AI to write emails. It spirals into chaos by the end and will probably make you laugh. 2. I open this website when I need to stop procrastinating3. I’m speaking at the Courses + Memberships Summit* this week (tickets are free) I’m excited for Laura Robinson’s talk about what happened when she added a high-touch option to...
Hey Reader, February taught me TWO things. 1. Rolling babies cause chaos. 2. And public accountability works! One of these kept me awake at 2am. The other is the reason I finally started making real progress on one of my big goals for 2026. Here's a full recap of my February! Income: $7,752.68Expenses: $1,588.53 All of my money this month came from one-to-one client work.Mostly retainer clients that I work with month after month. No affiliate income. No digital product sales. Just good...
Hey Reader, It turns out I’ve been lying to myself. I’ve been telling myself that I’m “barely working” right now. Which feels believable when you have a 2-year-old and a 3-month-old and your brain has 47 tabs open at all times. But instead of trusting the feeling, I decided to check. Last week, I tracked every single hour of my time. All 168 of them. Pink = time with my kidsBlue = workOrange = house stuff/cleaning/errandsLight pink = "free time" Purple = sleep If you want to see the full...
